Excerpt from Black Numbers

The Korpor pulled its lips away from him, its tongue the last to slip from his mouth. It glared at him, suddenly looking very dangerous and hideous. Its blue eyes grew even larger. It was astonished. No one had ever broken the kiss before. It felt anger well up and it only wanted to kill the boy. It had to kill the boy. The blood lust from killing the deer flowed through it.
Sid was afraid to move. He saw the rage in the Korpor’s eyes and knew he was going to die. In a panic, he felt for his numbers and they were instantly in his mind. He pulled them as quickly as he could to form a wall in front of him, just like he had done in the hut.
He heard a howl of rage inside his mind and felt his numbers being forced away. He pulled harder to hold them in place, but no matter how hard he tried, some of the numbers tumbled away, end over end into darkness. The Korpor was much stronger than the man in the hut. He started to sweat as he concentrated on keeping the remaining numbers in place. The Korpor methodically peeled them away, one layer at a time.
Sid grunted with effort. In his mind, the numbers looked like apple peelings as the Korpor pulled at them. Frantically, he brought more numbers to replace them, but as fast as he added them, the Korpor pulled them away.
They fought each other for what felt like eternity. Sid’s body shook with the effort and sweat ran into his eyes. He didn’t know for how much longer he could pull in numbers. They seemed to respond sluggishly now.
Suddenly the pressure was gone.
Sid opened his eyes and saw the creature standing over the deer carcass.
For the first time Sid noticed that the creature’s arms ended in paws with three claws, each one as long again as the paw. Blood dripped from them in thick black drops. It opened one paw and Sid saw it held the deer’s heart. It slowly crushed it, then dropped it to the ground.
Sid shivered and his legs felt numb. He locked his knees to keep from falling.
Never taking its eyes from Sid’s, it slowly stepped inside the deer carcass and squished its feet around like a little barefoot boy in a mud puddle. It then jumped up and down, stomping the deer.
Sid now knew where the wet suction and thumping sounds had come from. Blood sprayed out in a star burst pattern every time the creature’s feet thumped down inside the deer. Sid had no idea why the Korpor was doing this.
The Korpor stopped suddenly and stepped out of the deer carcass. It casually bent over and picked it up, slinging it over a shoulder.
It smiled at Sid.
A voice whispered in his head, dark and seductive. “I will be back for you...”

My Fantasy Novel Black Numbers, Book one

Black Numbers is the first book that I've written in the dark fantasy Black Numbers series.  It is available on Smashwords.com, and by the end of April it will be for sale from the Amazon Kindle eBook store, Apple iPad store, Barnes and Noble Nook eBook store, Kobo, Sony eBook store, and Diesel eBook store. I am currently writing book two, Blood Numbers.
Black Numbers book Jacket:
In a land where magic is based on mathematics, Sid is something special, for his awakening sexuality and genius-level understanding of mathematics combines to create a power beyond anything seen in the world. In Black Numbers, Sid is pursued by a deadly organization called the Oblate, who believes he is the Aleph Null, the one who can control black numbers, the theoretical chaos inversion of regular mathematics that is thought unsolvable. Sid’s only hope is to find the Anderom, an organization opposing the Oblate who can help him to understand his awakening powers before he is captured by the Korpor, an ancient and hermaphroditic creature whose sole purpose is to control Sid’s mind and powers through a mysterious psycho-sexual connection. Sid’s journey propels him into the center of a 1000-year-struggle with an outcome obscured by the seductive darkness of black numbers.
